Belvoir Life caught up with a company on the borders of The Vale which provides a horsebox hire service.
Two Ways Equimove is a family business run by Gareth and Kate Hill and based at Six HIlls, very close to the equestrian centre at Vale View.
We had a chat to find out more about the business.
Horses, Family, and 2Ways Equimove
Kate and I live and breathe the equestrian lifestyle at our family-run livery yard, DPL Equestrian, just outside Old Dalby. This place holds deep roots for us — four years ago, we moved back to take on the family home and business that Kate's father, Rob, built. For Kate, horses have always been a part of life. With over 15 years at Oakham Veterinary Hospital under her belt, she’s now the Practice Manager at Hoerman Equine in Whissendine.
Before settling at DPL Equestrian, we spent over ten years in Cottesmore, where we kept our horses on livery. Cottesmore was more than just a home — it was a way of life. You’d often spot us riding out with the children, or enjoying a well-earned break at The Sun Inn. Katy was always on the move, whether running around the countryside or competing in Park Runs. Our children embraced the equestrian lifestyle too, spending their time in the hunting field with The Cottesmore and later The Belvoir, or even walking Cottesmore hound pups for ex-kennel huntsman, Robert Medcalf.
While horses and hunting are a shared passion, I’ve always had another love—cars. Years ago, I co-founded a local garage in Oakham with a good friend, but ultimately, I found myself back where my career started at Close Motor Company in Northamptonshire, where I am now a Company Director and my passion for customer service, providing good product and encouraging our staff to be the very best versions of themselves continues to this day.
The Birth of 2Ways Equimove
How did this business come about?
Like many equestrians, we owned a 3.5t horsebox for our own use. Over time, friends and fellow liveries kept asking to borrow it. We were happy to help, but soon realised the demand for reliable self-drive horsebox hire was huge. After speaking to our liveries and doing some research, we took the leap. In late 2024, we invested in a brand-new ALX Stallion Box built specifically for self-drive hire. By January 2025, 2Ways Equimove was born—and we’ve been flat-out busy ever since! One of our proudest moments was when our box made the journey all the way to Le Mans, France, for a British Eventing competition.

We aim to provide affordable, reliable horsebox hire, with pricing options to suit every need:
- Half-day hire (AM or PM): from £70.00
- Full-day hire: £120.00
- Longer-term hire: Available on request (see our website for pricing: www.2waysequimove.co.uk)
Our ALX Stallion Box is a 3.5t model, which means it’s available to anyone 22 years and older with a standard car licence. Built by ALX Horseboxes in York, this ALX-21s model is tailored for professional use, featuring:
- A heavy-duty, full stallion partition
- Side-opening barn doors
- Breast bar deletion for added safety

Helping Owners in Their Time of Need
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has trusted us for their vet trips, competitions, and yard moves. Some of our hires have helped owners out of real sticky situations. One of our proudest moments was when we assisted a young rider who qualified for a European event in Le Mans, France. Their own lorry broke down at the worst possible moment. With our help, they arranged additional EU travel insurance, took our box across the Dover-Calais ferry, and made it to their event—a dream saved!
