The Thorold Arms in Marston

The Thorold Arms in Marston is a village pub with an excellent reputation for friendliness and good food and drink.

When our team visited it was for a private party midweek, but there were locals in drinking as usual, always a good sign.

The team behind the bar were very friendly and welcoming, got us our drinks quickly and kept everyone happy.

We had arranged a pre-discussed menu as there were quite a few of us - roughly thirty - and the food was excellent. We all had the lasagne which was served with wonderful thick crunchy chips, followed by a créme brûlée, which was delicious.

The pub has an interesting recent history. It was earmarked for development into houses before the village got involved and fought hard to prevent this happening. Having finally achieved that they then needed to find the money to buy the building in order to continue running it as a pub and guest house. They have managed this and now welcome new shareholders.

Now The Thorold is newly refurbished and re-opened in late 2019. It is a community-owned pub with B&B rooms, restaurant, café, and shop. It is set in the picturesque village of Marston within the heart of the Lincolnshire Countryside. It is easy to reach by foot, car and pedal-power, 7 miles from Grantham, 10 from Newark, close to the A1 and on the Viking Way long-distance footpath.
