Local Inspiration Claire Lomas dies aged 44

Claire Lomas MBE, the Leicestershire-based equestrian who was paralysed in a riding accident before becoming one of the most inspirational public speaker and fun raiser, has died aged 44.

What happened to Claire Lomas?

She died in a microlight accident while filming a new project in Jordan in August. She died about a week later. It is understood from friends of the family that she may have received here injuries when the microlight crashed on landing.

She leaves her husband Dan and two daughters Maisie and Chloe.

The family have asked for privacy at this time and requested that media outlets do not contact them for more information.

Claire Lomas Funeral Details

A funeral will take place at St. Mary's Church in Melton Mowbray in due course, when details are finalised.

Tributes have poured in from many sources, including charities, public figures and equestrians who knew and worked with her over the years.

Local Belvoir photographer Nico Morgan worked with Claire on her famous naked calendar, which featured the great and good from the equestrian world. "Claire was an inspiration to us all, so there was never any doubt that we would help when she asked. I was driving all over the East Midlands for a week capturing images for her calendar but it did a great job and raised a lot of money."

Claire had been a successful eventing rider before becoming paralysed after crashing into a tree during the cross country stage of Osberton Horse Trials in Nottinghamshire.

She became well-known for her positive attitude during her recuperation and the technolgoy she helped to publicise which helped her to complete the London Marathon in a robotic suit.
